Really? My grandpa ( mom's )... Never met him. He died like when my mom was 15 or so. Poor grandma ( mom's ).. She had to take care of 8 children all by herself. She's a very strong and kind woman. ( she's 79 or so ) Although she's not rich, she sometimes give me like RM3 or so ( a dollar, I think, but in Kelantan, Malaysia, things are far more cheaper ).

I CANNOT imagine my grandparents gone...you know pass away. I don't want to think about it. It makes me very scared.

Thank Goodness I can talk to my grandparents almost everyday through skype and they love it when they can see me via webcam. Just spoke to them yesterday night too. Dad and Opa chatted about football!

My Opa is very active in soccer! He used to play handball but now it's just soccer. I love my Oma. She bakes the most delicious cakes and her house, especially her winter garden (It's call that but actually it's like a green house where she has all her plants) is so beautiful.

She visited us in Singapore and Malaysia before but the weather is so hot, when she was here she was really suffering from the heat and sweat a lot. Mom and dad were worried because she might get sun stroke and we blast our air conditioning at full speed.

I meant sunstroke, Chris, not heat stroke although it is the same.

The definition of sunstroke:
Quote:
illness caused by too much sun: a condition caused by prolonged and excessive exposure to the sun and characterized by feverishness, faintness, convulsions, and coma.
It results when the temperature becomes too extreme to be handled by the body's heat-regulating mechanism.

The definition of heatstroke:
Quote:
physical exhaustion caused by heat: a condition caused by prolonged exposure to high temperatures, in which people experience high fever, headaches, hot dry skin, physical exhaustion, and sometimes physical collapse and coma

The reason why I say sun stroke was because we were worried to go out too much in the sun for my grandma. The exposure from the sun caused my grandma to become quite dizzy and both my grandparents wet the mattress they were sleeping in even with air conditioning going at full blast.

They sleep with their windows open during winter!

hee..hee... not wetting in the form of peeing in bed but excessive sweats. My poor grandparents, especially my grandma sweated so much, you can see them trickled down like water. She changed clothes so many times a day and in Europe during very hot summer, they might have heat waves and some old people cannot take it and they can die from heat stroke.

My grandfather sweated a lot too so between the two of them, they wet the mattress and pillows even though the air conditioning was at full blast. At the end, we flew all together to Penang, an island resort in Malaysia and dipped themselves into the cooling pool there! When my grandmother adjusted to the weather there, she was able to breathe easier. Otherwise she would hyperventilate and felt faint.

It's the same for me. If I have been too long in the winter environment and come back to Malaysia, the first few weeks are horrible because I can't stand the hot and humid weather. This would be the time when we dipped ourselves into the pool to cool off. Our young bodies could take the heat, but once mom had a mild sun stroke in Bali, Indonesia. She was sick and in bed for more than a week. The beach was so beautiful and shallow and since it didn't look quite hot, she was down at the beach walking and looking at the corals for like an hour or so. Shortly afterwards, she came in the shade and started vomitting and became feverish! Okay...enough drama! Hope I've explained to you.

Actually it's not about the cold. It's about how well your body can get adjusted to the outside temperature.

If a person who is accustomed to living in the winter environment, that person will find it almost unbearably hot in our tropical climate. I'm used to the weather here but when I visit Dubai, I feel the heat is suffocating.

When I go to a winter environment, the first week I am all bundled up with 2-4 sweaters before I can go out. But as soon as my body get adjusted to the weather, I can get along with just one sweater.

For older people like my grandparents, it is more dangerous. A body can shut down due to stress like drastic temperature change.
