Mystery surrounds BRITNEY SPEARS' no-show at a planned press conference in Los Angeles yesterday (04MAY06). The pop superstar invited selected media representatives, journalists and record industry executives to the Los Angeles Convention Center - but failed to show up. The 24-year-old did not reveal why she was calling the press conference, but it was widely anticipated she would officially announce her second pregnancy with husband KEVIN FEDERLINE. But the event didn't take place and there's no word from the Spears camp about why the plan was scrapped or whether it will be rescheduled.

But American publication In Touch claims to already have the big news after learning the 24-year-old and husband KEVIN FEDERLINE are painting one room in their Malibu, California, mansion all pink. Sources tell the magazine Britney, 24, discovered she was pregnant with her second child during a routine ultrasound exam. The singer gave birth to her first child, SEAN PRESTON, last year (05).

BRITNEY'S EX-NANNY INSISTS BABY DRAMA WAS AN ACCIDENT

The nanny BRITNEY SPEARS fired after her son SEAN PRESTON fell from his broken high chair has spoken publicly about the incident, insisting the tumble was an accident. The baby minder agreed to speak to US celebrity magazine Life + Style on condition reporters didn't name her. They have since closed the case, accepting the tumble was an accident.

Singer BRITNEY SPEARS has slashed the asking price for her Manhattan, New York City, penthouse in a final attempt to sell it - two years after it was first listed on the property market. The new asking price is $4.55 million (GBP2.6 million), a reduction on the previous asking price of $4.95 million (GBP2.8 million). The home features three bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, a media room, library and terrace. The TOXIC singer bought the apartment in 2002, before she married KEVIN FEDERLINE and gave birth to son SEAN PRESTON. Spears purchased the apartment for $3 million (GBP1.7 million) and then put it on the market in 2004 for $6 million (GBP3.4 million). The 24-year-old has not revealed what the subject matter of the press conference will be, but it is widely anticipated she will officially announce her second pregnancy with husband KEVIN FEDERLINE. Sony executive KAREN PHILLIPS says, "Britney hasn't held a press conference in so long that we know it's something big - pregnancy, a split, we're not sure." Spears and Federline wed in September 2004 after a whirlwind romance and have eight-month-old son SEAN PRESTON together. The couple have been plagued by persistent rumours of relationship problems and have not been seen together in the past few weeks. Jive Records and Spears' management team are reportedly planning to release her fifth album in November (06), and a world tour is tentatively scheduled for 2007. Spears was also due to perform at numerous award shows this year (06), but has since cancelled the commitments without explanation.
